Alexander's Angels envisions a world where individuals with Down syndrome are not defined by their disability but by their individuality.

Hello Everyone,

It’s that time again for Alexander’s Angels 10th Annual Long Island Buddy Walk.

Saturday, October 14, 2017
Tanner Park, Copiague, NY
10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

It has been such a milestone year for Francesca.  In June, Francesca graduated from Guggenheim Elementary.  This September she will will starting middle school.  Francesca did great graduation day.  She loved walking in with her friends, singing the songs everyone worked so hard learning, walking up to receive her elementary school diploma and shaking hands with her teacher and principal.  It truly was an amazing day!

The end of 2016 wasn't as much fun.  Francesca had hip surgery to try to correct the dysplasia.  It was a successful surgery performed by one of our favorite doctors - Dr. DiMauro.  Again, he did everything in his power to help Francesca.  It was a difficult recovery.  It was no fun being in a spica cast for Christmas.  But Francesca was a trooper.  As always, displaying the amazing strength that she has.  Francesca is still going to physical therapy every week, trying to strengthen that right side, getting her to fully extend and weight bear on that leg.  With her determination, we know she will get there.

About the Buddy Walk

The Buddy Walk® was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.  The Buddy Walk® has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to over 250 each year with at least one in every state across the country and many abroad.  The Buddy Walk program is supported nationally by NDSS and organized at the local level by parent support groups and other organizations, schools, and motivated individuals.

Alexander's Angels has been the organizer of the Buddy Walk® on Long Island since its inception in 2007.  In addition to sustaining the corporation, funds raised by Alexander's Angels benefit local programs and services, Down syndrome cognitive research, as well as local and national advocacy and awareness initiatives that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.

Alexander's Angels Mission
